José Mourinho recently ended up on the bench of AS Roma after the management of the famous Italian club decided to sack him due to disappointing results. So where will the Portuguese strategist’s next steps lead? This is what Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has spoken about.
Mourinho left AS Roma on Tuesday, January 16, after about two and a half years, when the management of the Italian club resorted to his dismissal. It should be noted, the Portuguese strategist had a valid contract at the Giallorossi until the end of June this year.
The reason for the sacking was unsatisfactory results. However, AS did not stay without the coach for long, only a few hours after the official announcement the club hired their player legend. Daniele De Rossi took the helm of the A-team.
However, this is not the first time Mourinho has experienced something like this, he has performed very similarly in his last five engagements. He experienced success, however, after some time the team started to decline significantly under his leadership and this understandably led to the termination of the collaboration.
So the question is where his next steps will lead now. A few days ago, the famous coach also received an offer from Saudi Arabia. However, he turned it down, saying that he was waiting for an offer that would appeal to him and be motivating in some way.
However, he can very likely say goodbye to one opportunity. The Italian media speculated about a possible move to Naples after his departure from AS Roma. However, its president ruled that out a few dozen hours ago.
Mourinho to Napoli?
“Mourinho has nothing to do with Naples. He is a very entertaining and impulsive coach, but I feel his destiny lies outside Italy. Certainly not in Naples,” said De Laurentiis, who was also quoted by Football Italia.
The Napoli president then went on to deny the possibility of Mourinho replacing Walter Mazzarri at the end of the season amid reports of a meeting between him and the agent of “The Special One” Jorge Mendes.
The Napoli president also expressed concern that Mourinho is unlikely to find another Serie A job and will have to concentrate on offers from other competitions.
