The mayor of Brno has announced that the Brno Grand Prix will not take place next year. The Ministry for Regional Development refused to provide funding for the repair of the track and Brno will drop out of the motoring calendar after years.

Brno will lose MotoGP next year. This was announced by Brno mayor Markéta Vaňková, who said that it had not been possible to find funding for the repair of the track.

The promoter company Dorna demanded it, as this year the riders themselves complained about the quality of the track. It is the responsibility of the City and Region Association, which leases the Masaryk Circuit from Automotodrom Brno and organises the Grand Prix, to ensure the good quality of the track for MotoGP races.

But the association lacks the money to repair it. Moreover, due to the coronavirus pandemic, neither the city nor the region has enough money. Therefore, the association asked for help from the Ministry of Regional Development, which rejected the request.

“The association leases the track from Automotodrom Brno and it is its responsibility to ensure a quality surface for the MotoGP. The role of the state has always been to help with the registration fees,” said Minister Klára Dostálová.

Despite the pandemic and a significant drop in revenue, Dorna insists on the repair without any conditions. The organizing association is unable to pay for it, so the city has to skip the Brno Grand Prix next year.
