More racism at Letná! Lafata spoke to Sparta fans
Here we go again. UEFA will once again have something to deal with. Several Sparta Prague fans did not avoid racist insults during the Champions League preliminary round match against Monaco at Letná.
Here we go again. UEFA will once again have something to deal with. Several Sparta Prague fans did not avoid racist insults during the Champions League preliminary round match against Monaco at Letná.
Third home game, second time racism will be dealt with. That is the negative record of Sparta fans.
First, they committed racist insults or imitating monkey shouts in the first league round when they hosted Sigma Olomouc and disliked Florent Poulolo.
Now the racism was witnessed by AS Monaco players in a Champions League qualifying match. Not too clearly, monkey shouts were already heard, for example, at Gelson Martins’ chance.
A little later, when the players in the charge of Niko Kovac went to rejoice provocatively in front of the Leiden boiler, the racism was much more obvious.
The players of the Prince’s team naturally went to complain to the referee, but the match continued. However, the stadium announcer warned the fans to avoid such behaviour, otherwise the match could be brought to an early end.
David Lafata, the former outstanding goalscorer, also went in front of the cauldron to reassure the fans, firstly praising the atmosphere in the stadium, but secondly saying that racist behaviour must be avoided.
However, not all supporters can be blamed. During the match there were at most a few individuals, but during the provocative celebration many joined in and trouble is brewing.
It should be mentioned that UEFA, which punishes racism more harshly than the football authorities in the Czech Republic, will also deal with this. Moreover, this is a very bad image of Czech football in the European Cup.
