Lucie Havlíčková, still only 17 years old, reached the finals of the junior version of the US Open in both singles and doubles. This is a great achievement and another proof of the strong upcoming generation of Czech women’s tennis. Moreover, she managed to turn one final appearance into a title.
In singles, the road to the final went as follows. In the first round, the Czech defeated Hamilton smoothly 2:0, which seemed to foreshadow her very solid run through the tournament.
In the second round there was a small crisis when Lucie lost the first set to France’s Ilieva. But it was the last lost set for several days.
However, she managed to turn the match around and was able to move on. A series of 2:0 wins followed. Lucie went through Kupres, Ngounoue and Shainder.
The final was played on September 10 at 18:05 and unfortunately did not end in victory. Lucie lost to the experienced Eala from the Philippines, who is ranked 297th in the world rankings.
It was with the Russian Shnaider, whom Lucie defeated in the singles semifinals, that she completed the doubles. And we can quite objectively note that these two tennis players performed dominantly together throughout the tournament and clearly went for the title.
Without losing a single set. In the final, they beat the German pair of Kuhl and Seidel 6: 3 and 6: 2.
Lucie is currently ranked 531st in the live singles rankings. In doubles she added her second junior grand slam title of the year. After the French Open, she also won the US Open title.
