Monza are struggling as a newcomer to the competition and have had a tough schedule in the first four rounds, failing to get a point against Udine, AS Roma, Napoli and FC Torino. Logically, they are last in the table, two points behind seventeenth place.
Atalanta, on the other hand, after last year’s disappointment of not qualifying for the cups, are on a roll, even leading the whole league after the fourth round, currently one point behind the leaders with a game to spare. It only lost points in the draw with AC Milan.
The home side is led by the spike striker Gianluca Caprari, the Italian international has scored once and assisted once so far. Big summer signing Stefano Sensi is still searching for ideal form, but with injuries avoiding him, he is one of the best in the league.
The visitors rely on Teun Koopmeiners, the Dutch national midfielder has already split the net four times. His Ukrainian midfield colleague Ruslan Malinovskiy has scored one goal and assisted one other.
Monza have scored only two league goals and conceded eleven. They are the worst defending team, scoring at least twice in every round so far.
Atalanta have relied on a good defence from the start of the season and have only conceded twice in four rounds. That’s a bit strange, because it has made a name for itself in Europe in recent years by simply outshooting opponents.
Given the form of both teams and Koopmeiners becoming the same leader he was at Alkmaar, I think Atalanta will win.
