The Merseyside derby was on the agenda on Wednesday night and the red team dominated the duel between Everton and Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp’s squad were dragged to victory by Mohamed Salah, who once again sparked the question: Who is the best player in the Premier League?

If you look at Mohamed Salah’s stats in the current Premier League season, they might take your breath away. 14 games, 13 goals, 8 assists. The Egyptian footballer not only leads the scorers table, but also reigns the assists table. And add to that 6 goals in 5 Champions League games.

Salah proved his incredible form again on Wednesday night. In the Merseyside derby against hated Everton, he contributed two goals to a comfortable 4-1 win and kept Liverpool within striking distance of the top of the table.

In Salah’s performance, though, everything looks terribly simple. In the 19th minute, he spotted a deflected ball that could have gone to Henderson. So, while still in his own half, he started his engines and actually received a long running pass from the Liverpool captain.

Digne was absolutely no match for Salah in the speed duel, the 29-year-old winger just whipped the ball into the box and rounded the back post beautifully.

For the second goal, Salah again had to finish after a long sprint. But he had no problem the second time either. After an Everton corner, the Reds turned away into the middle of the park where Coleman tried to head the ball to safety. But he was thrown off by an aggressively attacking Salah and the Irish full-back fumbled. Salah then raced in alone from the middle of the park and sent the ball across the face of goal for Pickford to cross to the far post.

This goal was very important as Everton were down to 1-2 at the time and were reaching for an equaliser. But Salah actually single-handedly secured Liverpool’s composure with a goal to make it 3-1. Jota made the final 4:1.

And so the question arose again among the fans. Who is the best player in the Premier League? According to many, there is no doubt about Mohamed Salah, who has been the one-loss leader this season.

However, in the longer term, he has other competitors such as Kevin de Bruyne and Harry Kane.
