The first of the big events on the hard surface is at its beginning. Virtually the entire world’s top tennis players are gathered at the ATP event in Toronto. The second round will bring together Miomir Kecmanovic and Hubert Hurkacz.
Hubert Hurkacz (26 years old, 17th in the ATP rankings) will be a slight favourite in his second round match against Miomir Kecmanovic (23 years old, 44th in the ATP rankings). Hurkacz from Poland finished among the top eight tennis players at the Masters here two years ago. Serbian Kecmanovic finished in the first round the same year.
This year’s form of both tennis players
The Serbian tennis player succeeded in the first part of the year in two tournaments. He played the finals on the hard surface in Delray Beach and on clay in Estoril. In the first case, he did not keep up with Taylor Fritz (9th on ATP) and in the second with Casper Ruud (5th on ATP).
After the end of the grass part of the year he still pulled out on clay in Gstaad, where he broke through to the semi-finals. His overall record is slightly negative. Kecmanovic won 20 matches this year and lost one more.
The Polish player has had a fairly constant performance this year. Hurkacz’s most frequent tournament result is an eighth-place finish. His top feat was triumphing at the Marseille indoor tournament, which belongs to the ATP 250 category.
With the exception of clay, the Pole has positive numbers on all surfaces. The hard surface has been his most successful in the long term. He has won more than two thirds of his duels on concrete in his career.
Current tournament and match
In Toronto, both players have one win under their belts. Kecmanovic’s was much harder to come by. The Serbian defeated in three sets Chilean Garin (currently 101st in the ATP rankings, the maximum he was at the 17th position) He won after sets 7:6, 4:6, 6:4 and his match lasted more than twice as long as the duel of his upcoming opponent.
Hurkacz took on Kazakhstan Bublik (28th on ATP) in two sets. He served much better than Kecmanovic in the opening match. His statistics on serve were better in all respects. Kecmanovic won their only match four years ago.
Conclusion
Hurkacz should win the match easily. His current form and performance on the hard surface speaks for him. He proved these qualities by winning his last match.
