Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber was the top rookie in the NHL for the month of January. He averaged nearly one point per game during the period. He had the most points and assists in the period.

Faber took advantage of the absence of Connor Bedard

He was certainly helped by the fact that Connor Bedard is out for a long time, having not played the entire month of January due to a broken jaw. Despite the absence lasting more than 10 games, Bedard still reigns supreme in rookie productivity this season.

He, by the way, earned the rookie of the month title in the previous two months. But back to Brock Faber. He played 14 games in the period under review, scoring a fantastic 13 points on 2 goals and 11 assists. That’s a great feat for a rookie and a defenseman to boot.

He had the most assists and points among all rookies in January. He has already reached the second position in the season’s scoring among all rookies, just behind Bedard. By the way, the third most productive player is Marco Rossi, Faber’s teammate, who has one less point.

Faber was given priority over another defenseman, Simon Nemec. The Slovak, who plays for the New Jersey Devils, has eight points in 12 games. Faber posted the most shot attempts (31) among rookies in the period under review and was also very valid on the power play, scoring seven points there.

He scored in 8 of the 14 games played. In the games against Florida and Columbus, which ended in a Wild victory, he scored 3 points each time. This marks a big fact that he is already a central figure of his team’s defensive lines.

He became the first player in Minnesota Wild history to win the rookie of the month award for the club. And in his mold, a great deal of competition is really starting to grow for the position of Rookie of the Year, who will receive the highly coveted Calder Trophy after the season.
