Will Nicolò Barella transfer from Inter Milan to Newcastle United? This is a question that will be answered in a few days, or rather weeks. But according to the latest reports, negotiations between the two clubs are still at an advanced stage, and for Newcastle it would be an important reinforcement in midfield.
British newspaper The Telegraph came out on Wednesday evening with the information that Newcastle United are trying to lure Inter Milan’s Nicola Barella to their squad.
The latter, especially in the spring part of the season, was one of the key figures for the Nerazzurri on their way to the Champions League final and the final third place in Serie A.
The 26-year-old Cagliari native scored six goals and seven assists in 35 games in the Italian top flight for Inter.
However, apart from his clean stats, he was a very important man in the midfield, and thanks to his ideas, the Milanese big club managed to break several important matches in their favour.
His market value is currently at €70 million according to Transfermarkt website. His contract at the San Siro expires at the end of June 2026. However, based on information from a British newspaper, Newcastle reportedly estimate that his transfer should cost around €58 million.
Newcastle, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League, have reportedly earmarked most of their transfer budget for two new midfielders.
How realistic is this transfer?
The Telegraph also claims that this potential transfer could be considered achievable, with Newcastle having been in hard negotiations with Inter over his arrival in recent days. Should the English outfit then acquire him, he would immediately become their highest earning player.
On the other hand, the well-known and trusted Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims on his Twitter account that the negotiations between the two parties have not yet reached an advanced stage. Inter have also reportedly not received any official offer.
According to Inter, this speculative offer does not even come close to his realistic price tag, while Newcastle have still not agreed personal terms with Barella on top of that.
Barella joined Inter in September 2020, when the Milan giants snapped him up from hometown side Cagliari. The Nerazzurri sent €32 and a half million to the then still premier league side.
