This Friday Michal Martinek will fight Denis Smoldarev in the Russian ACA organization. The Estonian is the favourite in the fight, but the Czech is confident. What are the weaknesses of his opponent?
Thirty-one-year-old Michal Martinek has 11 fights in professional MMA, won nine of them and only twice tasted the taste of defeat.
He has already fought two fights in the prestigious Russian organization ACA, losing the first one to Daniel James, he managed to defeat Tomas Pakutinskas and now he faces a tough challenge.
Estonian Denis Smoldarev, the same age, has seven fights in the ACA and although he has only won three of them, he is the favourite for the fight. But Martinek knows where his weaknesses are.
“He looks a bit glassy to me after the fights he’s had because he’s a very active fighter who regularly takes on real challenges. That’s where I think his biggest weakness is. Otherwise, I find him very complete,” he said in an interview with MMA Shorties.
Martinek is not afraid of challenges, which is why he turned down a Russian opponent who has lost three straight. He wanted a top-10 name, which he got, and if he wins, he’ll certainly be remembered in the ACA.
“We said we were interested in someone in the top 10 to move up and the goal is to do everything I can to get a title fight and they obviously liked that approach. After fighting Nascimento in the Contender Series, I realised that people only remember the big fights and I want to give my fans tough fights and real challenges,” he added.
