The 2003 Ferrari Formula One with which the German Schumacher won the championship that year went up for auction a few dozen hours ago. And, as reported by Racing News 365, that championship car has found a new owner thanks to this auction.
His name has not yet been specified, but an unnamed buyer paid $14 million and $630,000 for the Ferrari F2003-GA. In our currency, that’s roughly 351 million and 700 thousand.
In the attached ESPN F1 Twitter post below you can see Schumacher’s former monopost for yourself.
This Ferrari has become the most expensive modern Formula 1 car. The previous record (set in 2017) was $7.5 million. It was at this price tag that one of Schumacher’s other cars, the Ferrari F2001, was sold.
It should be noted, the 2001 formula is one of the most successful ever produced. Schumacher was only winning his third title at the time, but by a huge margin over second-placed David Coulthard.
At the end of 2001, Schumacher had an incredible 9 wins from 18 Grands Prix and 123 points. Second-placed Coulthard, driving a McLaren, had only 65 points.
With the 2003 car, Schumacher won his sixth, and therefore penultimate, championship. The German icon of the queen of motorsport won all six races, beating Finnish legend Kimi Räikkönen in the final driver standings by just two points.
It should be added, the Italian stable (Scuderia Ferrari) won six straight Constructors’ Cup titles from the 1999 season to the 2004 season, and it was one of the most successful periods Ferrari has had in Formula One.
