Nineteen-year-old current world number one Carlos Alcaraz is in the quarter-finals, and thus one step closer to the so-called “Sunshine Double”, the exceptional capture of both the Indian Wells title (Alcaraz won it earlier in March) and the Miami title.

He won in two sets 6-4 and 6-4 over home team Tommy Paul. Alcaraz must also win the tournament in order to stay at the top of the ATP rankings.

In his next match, he will face another American, Taylor Fritz, who defeated Denmark’s Holger Rune 6-3 and 6-4.

In a match played in parallel, Russian Karen Khachanov defeated Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (7-4) and 6-4. In the quarterfinals, he will play Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, who defeated Italian Sonega.

In the two remaining quarterfinal matches, American Christopher Banks will face Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Italy’s Jannik Sinner will face Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori.

In the women’s tournament, top ten seed Elena Rybakina managed to beat 24th ranked WTA Martina Trevisan and is in the semi-finals after 6-3 and 6-0 sets.

There she will meet American Jessica Pegula. In the other semi-final, the winners of the Kvitova-Alexandrova and Cirstea-Sabalenka duels will face each other.
