The future of Lionel Messi is one of the topics that is definitely attracting public attention. According to the latest reports, it looks like the Argentine will stay in the French capital.
Messi’s current contract at PSG expires in June this year. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has already stated before the World Cup that he will decide on his future after the championship.
According to earlier reports from earlier this year, which were also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Messi has reached a verbal agreement with PSG to extend his contract for another year. Everything was supposed to be a matter of days.
Shortly afterwards, however, there was speculation, which Spanish journalist Gerard Romero came up with. He stated that the situation has changed and Messi is closer to not renewing his contract and leaving PSG at the end of the current season.
Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has previously ruled out Messi’s return, due to financial compliance. Announcing the news, Romero said that if there is even a 1% chance, Barcelona will do everything to bring him back.
According to the latest information published by Romano, Messi’s representatives met with the French club’s management and privately discussed the possibility of a contract extension.
It was only the first meeting. The two sides have not yet agreed on financial terms or the length of the contract.
The meeting should be repeated in the next few weeks and it should definitely be a more intense meeting.
It looks like there is no summer sensation in the pipeline. The fresh World Cup trophy holder has a verbal agreement with PSG and their cooperation should continue.
