Lionel Messi is heading to PSG in the summer of 2021 from Barcelona. His mission was to lead the French club to a Champions League triumph, but he failed to do so.
In the 2021/22 season, the star-studded squad crashed out in the eighth round, where they fell to Real Madrid. Although PSG won their home game 1-0, they lost 3-1 in the Spanish capital. Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick.
In the current season, the draw has not been much kinder to the reigning French Ligue 1 champions. PSG faced Bayern Munich in the eighth round and lost both games. Moreover, the team from Paris did not score a single goal.
Christophe Galtier’s team is dominant in the domestic competition, but this is no surprise. The team of the sixty-six-year-old coach currently has a five-point lead over Marseille at the top of the table.
With only five games left in the season, PSG are facing a very acceptable draw. The team, whose market value is around 900 million euros, can therefore be expected to win another league title.
But it seems Lionel Messi is not entirely satisfied. Moreover, the 2022 world champion has travelled to Saudi Arabia after losing to Lorient. The team management punished him for this and he will not play in the next two matches.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, it is already certain that Messi will not continue at PSG next season. His father should have told the club a month ago.
But the question remains where the Argentine’s next steps will lead. There is talk of a possible return to Barcelona, but Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia is also interested.
