There is a very specific atmosphere in Barcelona right now. The club and the city have yet to absorb the end of Lionel Messi, but besides that, the new season is just around the corner and the Catalans will certainly want to prove that they can do without the best player in the club’s history. How does Gerard Pique describe the situation?

Barcelona has said goodbye to Lionel Messi and the team is going through a very interesting period. There is virtually nothing else being discussed in the media other than how the Catalans will fare without the legend and how much of an impact it will have on their game.

So far, however, it doesn’t look tragic. On Sunday, Barcelona played their first match after the farewell and beat the famous Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo 3:0.

Still, this win does not mean that everything is fine in the team. Gerard Pique spoke briefly about the atmosphere after the game and admitted that Messi’s departure has had a big impact on the team.

“It has affected the team. We will lose our magic in attack. But we have to move forward, the fans have high expectations, even though we lost the best player of all time,” Pique allowed himself to be heard.

The experienced central defender also claims he does not know the full story of how the split between the club and Messi came about. But he is clear about one thing: “The club’s management in recent years has not helped. But history shows that we will rise again.”

How will Barcelona fare without the biggest star in the club’s history? We will really find out this weekend when the Catalans welcome Real Sociedad to the Camp Nou for the first round of La Liga.
