Messi will return to Barcelona, says Maradona’s son
The son of star Maradona Diego Sinagra has expressed his belief that Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona. Reportedly, there is a possibility that this will happen in the summer transfer window.
Lionel Messi started his career at Barcelona back in 2004 and helped the club win an incredible 34 trophies, including 10 Spanish La Liga and Champions League titles. In addition, the Argentine international won the Ballon d’Or seven times and became the Catalan club’s all-time top scorer.
Last summer, Barcelona were unable to renew his contract due to the financial crisis, so Paris Saint-Germain came forward with a lucrative contract offer. The living football legend accepted and Messi moved to the Parc des Princes after seventeen long years.
However, Messi has so far failed to bring his best form to the French capital as he has been plagued by minor injuries or coronavirus. However, according to WhoScored, he is still one of the top ten players this season.
Maradona’s son believes Messi will return to Barcelona
Sinagra, son of Argentine legend Maradon, believes that Messi’s heart still beats for the Catalan club and sees his return to sunny Catalonia as realistic.
“I am convinced that Leo Messi will return to Barcelona. Maybe this summer,” Maradona Jr, who currently coaches Italian club Napoli United, which plays in the lower competitions, told Catalan newspaper Sport. “He doesn’t look very happy there, the place of his heart is undoubtedly Barcelona,³” he added.
Barcelona have slumped to fourth in La Liga and dropped out of the Champions League since Messi’s departure. Sinagra thinks the Blaugranas players have been unfairly criticised and after a successful transfer window in January, the Catalan club is on the rise again. “What club would not suffer from losing such a player,” Sinagra mused.
Messi vs. Maradona
Sinagra also responded to the comparisons between the two Argentine legends in the annals of football history.
“My father has no comparison. And not only in Argentina, they have been compared all over the world, but such comparisons have no meaning,” he responded to the comparison between the two famous footballers. “Messi still entered the history of football,” he added respectfully.
Of course, it seems unlikely that Messi will go back to Barcelona this year, as his contract in Paris does not expire until the end of the 2022/23 season.
