- Lionel Messi will not play in the MLS All-Star Game
- His ankle injury is still to blame
- Besides Messi, Luis Suárez will also not appear in the All-Star Game
He won the Copa América winner’s trophy for the second year in a row, but was sidelined by injury in the final game. Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 after extra time in the final, with Lautaro Martínez scoring the only goal and becoming the tournament’s top scorer.
However, Lionel Messi did not finish the match. He left the field in tears in the 66th minute because of an injury. The famous Argentine grabbed his ankle during the match and was writhing on the ground in pain for some time.
However, after returning to the club scene from the aforementioned international tournament, he has yet to play a match. Inter Miami, however, won both matches, first defeating Toronto 3-1 and then beating Chicago 2-1.
Inter thus dominates the entire MLS. In any case, Messi will not be ready for the upcoming All-Star Game. The captain of the reigning world champions did not have time to heal his ankle and will therefore not play in the All-Star Game. It could have been his first appearance.
Only Messi is missing
Luis Suárez is also missing from the roster for Wednesday’s match in Columbus, Ohio, which pits MLS stars from 18 league clubs against top talent from Mexico’s Liga MX. He is currently suffering from knee problems.
“Leo Messi will miss the All-Star Game with an ankle injury. Luis Suárez, who recently returned from an international assignment after more than 40 days away from the club, will miss the All-Star Game due to knee problems,” the club said, as quoted by the Miami Herald’s.
At least Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba will show up for the fans in Chicago. Real Salt Lake forward Cristian Arango, the league’s top scorer, will also be missing. He is serving a four-game suspension for violent conduct.
