Inter Miami is progressing through the current edition of the American MLS in an excellent way. After 28 games, they are currently leading not only the Eastern Conference but also the entire competition.
The team currently has 62 points, with another success in the last game. Miami beat Philadelphia 3-1 at home, this time with the famous Argentine legend in the lineup.
Lionel Messi defended his title with Argentina at the Copa América, but an ankle injury prevented him from helping his team for two months. In any case, the team from Florida did really well without him, as evidenced by the MLS standings.
Despite his two-month absence, Messi remained the most productive player in MLS. And he proved his importance in his first game back against the Philadelphia Union. The Argentine legend could not have returned in better form.
The Argentine made it into the starting line-up, turning the game in Inter’s favour with two goals in the first half. Danish striker Mikael Uhre scored for the Pennsylvanians in the second minute.
And that was not all. In the eighth minute of the second half, Messi assisted Luis Suárez’s goal, setting a new record in the American top flight.
In fact, Messi became the player who scored 15 goals and 15 assists the fastest. He needed just 19 games to do it. The league’s top scorer is currently Christian Benteke (D.C. United) with 19 goals. Two shots behind are Cristian Arango (Real Salt Lake), Denis Bouanga (LAFC) and the aforementioned Suárez.
