Messi to the US? Miami co-owner believes he can bring Barcelona star
It seems inconceivable that Lionel Messi, the face of the Catalan big club, would ever leave. However, the co-owner of American team Inter Miami believes he could bring the legendary Argentine back in the future.
It seems inconceivable that Lionel Messi, the face of the Catalan big club, would ever leave. However, the co-owner of American team Inter Miami believes he could bring the legendary Argentine back in the future.
Lionel Messi and a move to the US? Now a very unlikely alternative. Yes, Messi’s contract expires at the end of June this year, but it is safe to assume that he will agree a new one with the new president Joan Laporta.
However, Jorge Mas, co-owner of Inter Miami, believes he can bring the famous legend to his club. Not now, but in the future.
“I am optimistic that Messi will play in an Inter Miami jersey because he would complete his legacy as the best player of his generation. At the same time, it would fulfil the ambition of the owners of Inter Miami to create a world team,” he said.
He added: ” David (Beckham) and I are working very hard to bring the best players here. And Messi is one of the best footballers in history.”
Barcelona’s management has reportedly already offered Messi a new contract for ten years! According to the Spanish media, however, it would work like this – the thirty-three-year-old Argentine would play two more years of his active career in Catalonia, then move to Florida for another two years, where he would eventually hang up his cleats.
For the remaining six years he would serve as a world ambassador for Barcelona. But how likely is this option? It is not only the Catalan club’s fans who would surely like to see him end his rich career here.
After all, in a Barcelona jersey, he celebrated ten times the championship of the Spanish top competition, four times dominated the Champions League and seven times lifted the trophy for the winner of the Spanish Cup over his head.
As for his individual statistics, he has won the Ballon d’Or six times, been named European Player of the Year three times, Player of the Year ten times and topped the table for top scorer in La Liga eight times.
