Messi to Inter Milan? In 2021 a real possibility! Why did the potential transfer fall through then?
Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti confirmed a few dozen hours ago that he had spoken to the famous Argentine about the possibility of a transfer to Inter in 2021, after Lionel Messi’s forced departure from Barcelona. However, the Milanese big club did not have enough money to make the transfer.

Spanish daily AS came out on Wednesday evening with the information that Inter Milan did indeed discuss a potential transfer with Argentine Messi in 2021.
Specifically, this information was confirmed by the club’s vice-president Javier Zanetti. The Nerazzurri legend has been trying to use his relationship with the Rosario native to lure him to Serie A. Although the representatives of the Milanese big club knew that they had no chance against PSG in the financial fight.
“We talked to Messi about our relationship when there was the possibility of him leaving Barcelona,” Zanetti told DAZN in an interview, quoted by AS.
“I never thought he would say goodbye to Barcelona. But from an economic point of view we cannot realistically compete with teams like (Manchester) City or Paris Saint Germain,” Zanetti explained.
This is also the simple and easy reason why the transfer didn’t work out at the time. Inter simply couldn’t offer as much money as the Parisian giant.
Messi left the Camp Nou in tears and eventually signed a two-year contract with PSG with an option for another 12 months.
Now, in any case, PSG is in discussions with Messi to extend his current contract. It expires at the end of June this year.
Messi has appeared in 59 matches across all competitions during his time at the Parisian club, scoring 26 goals and assisting 29 more.
