Lionel Messi scored twice in the Champions League against Bruges. The first goal in particular was really good and made us forget about the criticism that has been coming at him in recent weeks.
Lionel Messi scored twice in the Champions League against Bruges. The first goal in particular was really good and made us forget about the criticism that has been coming at him in recent weeks.
When PSG and Bruges faced each other in the first round, it was a big surprise. It was the first time the Messi – Mbappé – Neymar trio played together and big things were expected. But they didn’t happen.
The Belgian side managed to tame a star-studded Paris at home and draw 1-1. Messi and co. wanted to make up for it in the rematch, and they did so brilliantly.
The game was almost decided in the seventh minute by PSG’s best player of the season, Kylian Mbappé. He scored for the first time in the 2nd minute and added another goal in the 7th minute. If he does indeed leave for free at the end of the season, it will be an incredible loss for PSG.
And it was Mbappé who had a hand in the next goal. On the left wing, he played his violin to an opposing player and found Messi with his left foot. He guided the ball towards the whitewash and with a beautiful shot, typical of the 34-year-old Argentine, curled the ball to the back post.
Lionel Messi then added a second goal when he scored from the penalty spot in the 76th minute. It was his fourth and fifth goals in the Champions League, and his sixth overall for PSG.
At least for a while, he put to rest the criticism that has been heaped on him in recent games. Especially after the draws against Lens, Nice and the loss to Manchester City.
