Messi praised Lewandowski after winning the Ballon d’Or: We all know you should have won last year
It was a beautiful fight with a sad ending. Unfortunately, Robert Lewandowski did not win the Ballon d’Or this year either. Lionel Messi will take home his seventh, but the Polish sharpshooter has been honoured.

The fans are sad, Robert Lewandowski is with them. Many people wanted the Polish striker to win the Ballon d’Or this year. After all, he still outperformed his performances from last year and it seemed like it might finally work out.
But unfortunately for him, Lionel Messi is still on the scene. Lewandowski may have scored goal after goal, but the Argentine is a complex footballer and has conceded many goals in addition to scoring many. He equally excelled in dribbles, chances created and many other statistics.
So we can be sad, we can complain, but we cannot change the result. Messi deserves nothing but congratulations for his seventh Ballon d’Or.
What’s more, instead of some fuming, he showed the utmost compassion and respect for his biggest rival from this year.
“Robert, I am truly honoured to have competed with you for this award. Everyone knows and everyone agrees that you should have been the winner last year. I think France Football should give you the award for 2020. You deserve it and you should have the Ballon d’Or at home,” Messi showed true character.
Lewandowski, however, at least got a consolation prize when he was named the year’s top scorer. This is a new category that should prevent the Ballon d’Or being awarded solely on the basis of goals scored.
