Messi is the last piece of the puzzle that will make us a special team and not just a quality team, says Pavol Kuruc
PSG will enter the new season on Saturday night with a match against Troyes, who are back in the top French league after 3 seasons. We asked Pavol Kuruc, who leads the Czechoslovakian fan club Paris Saint-Germain, about the current events at the Parisian club.

How would you evaluate the past season, which definitely did not go as expected?
Last season was like a roller coaster ride. There were periods when we looked great, but there were also periods when we looked like we didn’t know what we wanted to do on the pitch.
Then came the change of coaches after unconvincing performances in the Champions League (we almost didn’t get through the group), we couldn’t win important games in Ligue 1, but at least we did well in the French Cup.
Pochettino dragged us to the third Champions League semi-final in the club’s history via Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but we came up short against Manchester City.
Ligue 1 went to us by one point in favour of Lille, who played very honestly last season and deserved the title. I rate last season very below average as I think we could have done a lot better.
What do you think of the transfers so far?
The transfers are great so far. We strengthened the positions that needed strengthening, like Hakimi at right-back or Wijnaldum in midfield.
Then there are transfers that I like for the reason that they will increase the competition in the starting lineup, which has been quite lacking at PSG so far, like Sergio Ramos, who has to fight for a place in the starting lineup with the Kimpembe-Marquinhos pairing, or Donnarumma, who has to prove his qualities ahead of Navas, who was great last season.
Is Lionel Messi a great signing for you, or are you afraid that the club will have to get rid of someone because of him?
Messi is, in my opinion, the last part of the team, which will make us a special team and not just a very good team.
He is, in my opinion, the best player in the history of football, so I will be incredibly happy if he joins us. There are several players on the transfer list that don’t fit our plans, so I won’t be angry if several players leave this summer, like Sarabia, Herrera, Gueye, Kehrer, Kurzawa, Segio Rico.
There is a lot of speculation about Kylian Mbappe leaving. How long do you believe you can keep him?
As for Kylian Mbappé, like probably every PSG fan, I hope he will extend his contract with us for at least a couple of years. It’s up to him and for me it’s about 50/50 at the moment whether he decides to extend or not.
What other positions do you think would be good to add to the squad, if any?
At left-back it’s questionable at the moment as Juan Bernat is coming back to us after a long injury, but if he returns to his pace and style of play, which suits us even more now with Hakimi, then I’ll be overjoyed with the current line-up.
What do you expect from the new season, do you think it is the one that will finally bring you success in the Champions League?
I expect a lot from the new season. I’m counting on Pochettino to sit down 100% with the players already and we’re going to win absolutely everything we can. I believe that no one will stop us this season. Be it Lille or other great European teams.
