Lionel Messi has decided, at the age of 35, to end his European career and finish his career at Inter Miami in the USA. He also took a dig at Barcelona in his first interview since joining MLS.

After two years Messi ended up at PSG, he will definitely not remember the French engagement in a good way. He did win two league titles, but those are a must in Ligue 1. Messi came for the Champions League, only for the Parisians to be knocked out twice in the eighth round.

PSG fans eventually started booing and booing at Messi until he became enemy number one and it was clear that the Argentine would not stay at the Parc des Princes.

Just what will be his next destination? Three options loomed – Saudi Arabia with a billion dollar offer, Inter Miami with a comfortable life or a return to Barcelona.

In the end, Messi opted for B, moving to Florida to finish his rich career. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he explained that while the Saudi offer was financially tempting, he couldn’t imagine living in the country with his family.

A dig at Barcelona

And a return to his beloved Barcelona? Although president Joan Laporta promised to do everything possible for Messi’s return, it wasn’t that simple. The Catalans first had to sell several players, cut the salaries of others and even then they couldn’t guarantee Messi that they could sign him up.

So Messi didn’t want to wait and chose to leave for Miami. “I wanted to make my own decision. To think about myself, about my family. Even though it was said that La Liga had approved everything, there were still many other things to do. Barcelona would have to sell players, cut player salaries. I didn’t want to go through any of that,” Messi explained to Mundo Deportivo.

And he also took a little dig at his former club. “I’m not sure Barcelona did everything possible for my return. I honestly only know what Xavi told me… I’m sure there are people at the club who don’t want my return to Barcelona and consider it a negative for the club,” Messi said.
