Will Lionel Messi return to Barcelona? At the moment, this does not seem realistic, as the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner himself confirmed in a recent interview with Diario Sport.

Lionel Messi moved from Europe to the American continent in this summer transfer window, specifically from PSG to Inter Miami.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner admitted in a recent interview with Diario Sport that he understandably had more offers before the aforementioned transfer. There were European big clubs, but also teams from Saudi Arabia.

In any case, Messi chose Inter Miami and although his team ultimately failed to qualify for the MLS playoffs, he reportedly does not regret his decision. The Argentine playing legend is said to be happy in the United States.

In terms of statistics, Messi has played 14 competitive matches for Miami, scoring eleven goals and five assists. Meanwhile, he scored ten goals in the Leagues Cup, of which he was also the top scorer.

However, one of the best players in football history spoke about his return to Barcelona when answering questions from a reporter of the aforementioned Spanish daily.

Messi continues to follow Barcelona, return ruled out

“In the summer, my return to Barcelona was in the cards, but it was a similar situation to the one in 2021 when I left for Paris. There is no chance (of a move in the winter transfer window),” Messi said frankly.

“I thought about returning to Barça, about my life there, about retiring as I always wanted, but it was not possible,” he added.

But he says he is still watching Barcelona. According to the latest reports, Messi is happy with the direction the Catalan giant has taken.

“It seems to me that the team has developed well after Xavi’s arrival. There is a mix of young and more experienced players like Lewandowski and Koundé. The youngsters are of an excellent level. They have a chance to do great things this year,” the 36-year-old star said, bringing the whole subject to a close.
