Messi as we know him at last! But his good performance was not supported by his teammates, PSG fell without a single shot on target

Lionel Messi is finally starting to get used to his new location. After scoring his first goal against Manchester City, he also appeared in the starting line-up at Stade Rennes and gave a very good performance. But the same cannot be said for his teammates.

Messi came closest to scoring in the first half, but only hit the crossbar from a direct kick. It was the third time in his fifth game for PSG that he hit the post. His stats could have looked completely different.

But apart from that, he scored four more shot attempts, one more was from a direct kick, but it was just a few centimetres off target. Two of his shots were blocked by Rennes players.

In addition, the Argentine created three chances for his teammates, but none of them were taken. Apart from that, Messi tried to be really active, tried to set up actions, several times individually got through the opposing team. In short, he’s finally getting into it.

Kylian Mbappé had a very bad day for a change, burning one chance after another. And once he scored, the goal was disallowed due to offside.

But almost every PSG player could be criticised. That’s simply not how a team should play with players like that in the lineup. On the other hand, Rennes deserve huge praise for a great team performance.

PSG dropped points for the first time this season, but after nine rounds of Ligue 1, they have enough of a lead at the top of the table and don’t need to panic.
