Messi and Neymar? It’s still there! Watch how they schooled Lyon’s defence and got PSG three points

Lionel Messi and Neymar’s link-up is still active, as the two of them once again did enough to overcome the Lyon defence. It isthanks to this duo that PSG are back at the top of Ligue 1, where they will surely be until September 30, when the league competitions start again after the national break.

Messi’s pass to Neymar took out the Lyon half, whereupon Neymar continued towards Anthony Lopes’ goal, then passed back to the Argentine magician, who cleared the ball to the bar from the first.

This gave PSG the lead in the fifth minute, which they already held until the end and returned to the top of Ligue 1 ahead of Marseille, who only drew with Rennes on Saturday. Both teams, along with Lens, remain the only unbeaten teams of the current season.

Lyon, meanwhile, notched up their third league defeat in a row, having fallen to both Monaco and now PSG after losing to Lorient. The fourth most valuable squad of the current Ligue 1 season is now 9 points behind the top spot.

However, coach Peter Bosz’s team is performing very well, which is confirmed by the statistics. Lyon has the highest percentage of ball possession – 58.4% and sends 16 shots at the opponent’s goal per game. According to the table of expected points, Olympique would even be second behind PSG.

Thus, we can expect Lyon’s results to improve soon and climb up the table. For Lyon, as for several other teams, the national break is coming in very handy.

In the next league round, they will then face Lens, one of the three unbeaten teams in Ligue 1 this season. Can Lyon bounce back or will they deepen their crisis?
