Mercedes? They’ve stuck with me through all the sh*t, it’s my family, Lewis Hamilton said of his new contract. When is it scheduled to be signed?

Will Hamilton sign a new contract with Mercedes? Very probably yes, maybe we shouldn’t even be afraid to say absolutely.
Despite his advanced racing age, the seven-time champion is a very valid driver, as he is proving this season.
The 37-year-old Briton’s current contract expires in 2023, and the word from Mercedes is that they are waiting for a quiet winter period in which they say it would be most appropriate to sign Hamilton’s extension.
And no wonder. Hamilton may not have made an ideal start to the new era of Formula One, but he has found his lost racing pace over the course of the season. And he’s also been a very important part of the team in terms of bringing data, working on the concept car and many other things.
Statement from the Mercedes boss
“We haven’t spoken yet. We want to finish the season definitively and then have a quiet time over the winter, like we did last time. But there is much more to us now than just the driver,” Wolff explained in an interview with Motorsport, outlining a possible date for signing a new contract.
“Even if we don’t talk about the end of his career, it’s important to talk about his role as an ambassador for Mercedes and the many sponsors we have and the implications he may have for our wider audience,” Wolff added.
According to the German stable boss, there is simply no rush and all the factors that the new contract will bring need to be taken into account.
However, he said that Hamilton is 100% in the driver’s seat and they are certainly not looking for another driver. Moreover, the driver himself admitted in one of the post-race interviews that he and Mercedes will come to an agreement to continue with the team and it should even be a multi-year deal.
Mercedes? It’s my family
It should be noted, Hamilton has never raced in Formula 1 for a team whose cars were not powered by Mercedes power units.
Hamilton, now 37, made his debut in 2007. From then until 2012, he raced for McLaren, which had Mercedes engines in its guts. At the start of the 2013 season, however, he switched from the British stable to the German one.
“My goal is to stay with Mercedes. I have been with Mercedes since I was 13 years old and yes, Mercedes-Benz is my family. They stick to me through and through. They’ve stayed with me despite my expulsion from school. They stuck with me through everything that happened in 2020. They stuck with me through my mistakes and the sh*t that came out in the press, they stuck with me through my ups and downs, ” Hamilton said after the Mexican GP.
“I really believe in this brand, I believe in the people that are in this organization. And I want to be the best teammate for them because I think we can make this brand even better, more accessible and stronger than it is. And I think I can be an integral part of that,” he added.
