Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is entering the final season of his current contract with Mercedes. German stable boss Toto Wolff then went into detail about the contract extension in a recent episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast. Based on the latest information, that is only a matter of time.

Hamilton moved to Mercedes in 2013, from McLaren, where he spent six seasons. It was from the British Woking stable that Hamilton brought one championship title to the Silver Arrows, which he won in 2008.

During his time at Mercedes (2013 to present – ed.), however, he won six more championships, plus was a key figure in the German team’s chase for an incredible eight straight Constructors’ Cup titles.

However, Hamilton did not view the 2022 season positively after it ended, and even said it was one of his worst. For the first time in his 16-year F1 career, he found himself in a situation where he had not won a single race. And his final sixth place in the championship was also his worst result to date.

The 2023 season, it should be added, will be the last season of his current contract with Mercedes. So what does his future hold? That’s a question that doesn’t seem to have too difficult an answer, quite the opposite.

In fact, the Mercedes boss discussed the matter in a recent episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast and talked about Hamilton’s future at Mercedes.

We don’t have a firm date, but…

“Well, the list is pretty long, what with all the things that need to be done! Certainly, Lewis’ contract is one of the topics we’ll address in the winter, but there is no firm deadline,” Wolff said on the Beyond the Grid podcast.

At the same time, he is confident that Hamilton will sign a new contract because, based on his words, there is no reason not to proceed. The now 38-year-old driver is said to be a solid part of the team and in turn the team is an integral part of him.

“I think one of his strengths is that he is always hungry, always eager. He is a great sportsman, but also someone who is extremely focused and determined,” Wolff concluded by highlighting Hamilton’s strengths.
