Fame and money aren’t everything. In fact, sometimes it goes to players’ heads and they think they can have it all. Something similar seems to have happened in the case of Benjamin Mendy.
In fact, the Manchester City left-back is currently on trial for raping 8 women, one sexual assault and one attempted rape.
The trial has just started and is expected to last around 15 weeks. Eight men and six women have already been named as the jury, reports the UK’s Daily Mail.
One of the world’s most trusted websites, The Athletic, reports that up to five Manchester City players are likely to be called as witnesses. They are expected to be Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Raheem Sterling, who left for Chelsea in the summer.
This was revealed to The Athletic website by members of the jury who found out in court on Wednesday. Mendy was arrested last August and on Wednesday the 28-year-old Frenchman appeared in court alongside Louis Saha Matturito, a former footballer who faces charges of eight rapes and four assaults between 2012 and 2021.
Mendy denies his guilt and intends to defend himself. However, the evidence is against him. The trial begins on Monday.
And what does the 2018 world champion with France face? Imprisonment of between 5 and 20 years, however, in extreme cases, life imprisonment is not excluded.
