Arsenal under Arsene Wenger have always prided themselves on technical play full of beautiful combinations and eye-catching goals. One such goal was scored by the Gunners against Norwich, specifically by Jack Wilshere.
The team concept of the game, that’s what Arsene Wenger has always prided himself on. Sometimes it almost seemed that for the experienced French coach the game impression was more important than the result.
In 2013, Norwich came to the Emirates Stadium. A game that was originally supposed to be ordinary and unremarkable was forever etched in the fans’ memories.
At 0-0, Arsenal took possession of the ball and raced on the counter-attack. Jack Wilshere himself started the action in his own half.
He passed the ball to the left flank and raced forward. Santi Cazorla then guided the ball into the middle, collided with Wilshere, sent the ball to Giroud who heel-ended the ball to Wilshere.
The Frenchman returned the ball to the Frenchman with his heel as well, Giroud still swiftly tucked the ball behind the defence and Wilshere cleared the ball to the post from his first touch.
Absolutely magnificent one-touch action. Wilshere and Giroud in a two-man tackle took out four Norwich defenders who were just looking on.
This goal will always be remembered as one of the finest in Premier League history. Arsenal scored a few more beautiful goals after that, but Wilshere’s one against Norwich will always be at the top.
