The Canadian Grand Prix has offered many great races in its history. And one of them was the one in 2011, which was won by Jenson Button in a McLaren after a truly infarct ending. To this day, it is one of the best results a British driver has ever recorded in F1. He dominated the race at the Montreal circuit from the last place!

The 2011 Canadian Grand Prix was the race that got Formula 1 fans out of their seats. And very special for McLaren driver Jenson Button.

The now forty-two-year-old former racing driver started the seventh race of the 2011 season from seventh place and the race did not go well for him at all. It should be noted, the then Canadian Grand Prix was heavily influenced by rain, and so the final result could have been anything due to different strategies.

First, however, Button went through hell. On lap eight, his teammate Lewis Hamilton tried to overtake him on the start straight. However, there was contact between the two drivers, which meant the end of the race for Hamilton and relegated Button to the very tail of the grid.

In addition, later in the race, specifically on lap 37, he was involved in a duel with Fernando Alonso from which he suffered a puncture to his left front tyre.

Overall, Button pitted four times in the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix, after which he had to serve a pit lane penalty.

However, despite the difficult racing conditions, Button was able to fight his way back to the front for the remainder of the race. On lap 64, he moved into third place ahead of Mark Webber at the final corner, and a lap later he also overtook second-placed Michael Schumacher.

By lap 67, he was chasing race leader Sebastian Vettel, with the race finally coming to an end on the final 70 laps. The German Red Bull driver made a big mistake at turn six, which put Button into first place and eventually won the then Canadian Grand Prix!

To this day, it is one of the best race results of his career. This is despite the great performance he gave in his championship season in 2009, when he raced for the Brawn GP team.

In 2011, however, Button achieved three victories. In addition to Canada, he also enjoyed success in Hungary and Japan.

In total, however, he stood on the podium twelve times and ended the season with 270 points to finish second in the drivers’ championship. Albeit with a huge 122-point loss to champion Vettel.
