The 2007 Canadian Grand Prix is well known for two main reasons. Firstly, Lewis Hamilton won his first career race that year. And secondly, it was one of the biggest crashes in Formula One history – perhaps this is a safe way to interpret the huge accident involving Polish driver Robert Kubica.

It was lap 27 of the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix when Polish driver Robert Kubica, then still with BMW Sauber, had a close encounter with Toyota driver Jarno Trulli on the exit of Turn 9.

However, contact was made between the two drivers, which sent Kubica straight into the wall. In such moments, the driver is simply a passenger in his car.

The impact was so severe that Kubica practically destroyed his entire car, or rather almost the entire monocoque, where the driver himself is seated, and the rear of the car.

In fact, you can see this huge crash for yourself in the attached video below and recall this memorable, albeit terrifying, moment from the 2007 Canadian GP.

Not only the team itself, but of course all the fans were worried about the health of the Polish driver at that moment. On the other hand, it is another proof of how safe F1 could be in those days.

Kubica not only survived this terrifying and hard crash, but even missed only one race. And that was in the US Grand Prix, where he was replaced by then Sauber rookie Sebastian Vettel. The now thirty-eight-year-old returned to the French Grand Prix, where he finished fourth.

In any case, 2007 was one of the most interesting years in Formula One history. Kimi Räikkönen won the championship in a Ferrari, collecting 110 points overall. However, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso (both 109 points) finished close behind.

Ferrari’s last title, Kubica’s first and last win

It should be noted, Räikkönen’s title from the 2007 season is the last one Ferrari has won in the queen of motorsport so far.

Kubica and his team also had a solid season. Team leader Nick Heidfeld finished fifth in the drivers’ championship with 61 points, with Kubica just behind him on 39 points. As far as the Constructors’ Cup is concerned, BMW Sauber was second with 101 points after the additional disqualification of McLaren.

Finally, it should be remembered that Kubica won the Canadian Grand Prix a year later. The Polish driver thus atoned for his accident in the 2007 season, and it is also of great interest that this was Kubica’s first and last victory in Formula 1.
