Nottingham Forest earned promotion back to the elite last Championship season and are returning to the Premier League after 23 years. However, the club doesn’t want to go backwards or fight for retention right away, so it has decided to strengthen in a big way. As part of this article, we take a look at Nottingham Forest’s reinforcements.
The first player is twenty five year old goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who arrives from Manchester United on a one year loan deal. However, the option is not part of the loan deal. The Englishman showed himself in a very good light during his loan spell at Sheffield United and also subsequently in a Manchester United jersey.
However, David de Gea is the number one man at the Red Devils and Henderson doesn’t get many chances through him. So his departure is the logical outcome. For a long time there was speculation whether he would go on loan or transfer and also where he would actually go. In the end, the Whitehaven native has landed at Nottingham.
Next came thirty-five-year-old goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on a free transfer from Burnley FC. However, he will operate as he did at Burnley as a backup goalkeeper.
Then we have a pair of players from Huddersfield. Namely Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’Brien. The former is a 26-year-old left-back who cost the Premier League newcomer €5.90 million. The second mentioned is a twenty-three-year-old English central midfielder whose transfer also cost 5.90 million euros. Both players have signed contracts until 30 June 2026.
The fifth reinforcement is Omar Richards. The 24-year-old left-back transfers from Bayern Munich, where he lasted only one year. He joined the German club on 1 July 2021 for free from Reading.
The transfer cost €8.5 million and Bayern also secured a 15% share of the future transfer fee in the contract. The Englishman played 17 games for Munich and scored 1 assist. Richards also signed a contract until 30 June 2026.
The other signing is twenty-four-year-old Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi. He has shown very good form for Union Berlin, where he played 43 games across all competitions last season, scoring 20 goals and notching 5 assists.
The transfer fee was up to 20 and a half million euros, which is also the record transfer fee spent by this English club. The Nigerian has signed a contract until June 30, 2027.
Among the reinforcements is also Neco Williams, who is transferring from Liverpool. This twenty-one-year-old right-back cost Nottingham 20 million euros. Liverpool also secured a 15% share of the future transfer sum. The Wales international has signed a contract with his new club until 30 June 2026.
The latest signing so far is twenty-nine-year-old offensive all-rounder Jesse Lingard, who arrives for free after the end of his contract from Manchester United. The player had a relatively recent loan spell at West Ham and certainly has a lot to offer the newcomer. However, Lingard has only signed a contract with his new club until June 30, 2023, so we’ll see what happens after the season.
Nottingham have brought in these eight reinforcements so far and we’ll see if anyone else comes in. Nimce is already forming a very interesting unit here and it will certainly be interesting to watch next season. What do you think about the strengthening of the Premier League newcomer?
