Daniil Medvedev fulfilled his role as a big favourite and advanced to the final of the Australian Open. He defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-1 in the semifinals, only to lose a set. And the umpire took it away.

It was a very close match from the start. Both players held their serve, Medvedev even didn’t allow Tsitsipas a fifteen on his serve for a long time. Thus, the match reached the tiebreak, where the Russian tennis player worked better with his nerves.

But right at the start of the second set Tsitsipas took away the second player in the world’s serve. He broke back, but at 4-4 the Greek tennis player broke Medvedev’s serve again. He went on to serve to win the set, but the 25-year-old Russian definitely did not go into the last game of the second set with a clear head.

During the exchange he swore at the top of his lungs and the umpire took it away. According to Medvedev, the umpire overlooked the illegal coaching, and in his opinion, Tsitsipas was constantly being spoken to by his father from the stands.

“His dad can talk after every point? Are you stupid?” Medvedev began to scold the referee. He even got so angry that he started shouting. “His dad can talk every point? Can he? Answer my question! ” the Russian tennis player yelled at the umpire.

When the umpire responded that there was no unauthorized coaching, Medvedev lost his nerve again. “Oh, my God, you’re so bad, man. How can you be so bad in a Grand Slam semifinal? Look at me! I’m talking to you!” yelled an angry Medvedev.

“Time? What time? I’m talking to you!” continued the exasperated Russian as the umpire announced into the microphone for the players to get ready.

Medvedev doesn’t have many fans around the world, with fans cheering against him at almost every Grand Slam. A lot of this is countered by his behaviour, on the contrary, it has to be said that even in a negative atmosphere he often shows steady nerves and can manage matches to a victorious end. Like with Tsitsipas.
