Daniil Medvedev defeated Nick Kyrgios 7:6, 6:4, 4:6 and 6:2 this morning.
It was a very high level match, as evidenced by the total number of aces, which stopped at 48 (31 of them Medvedev).
The much reviled Australian Kyrgios is an idol in his homeland. This is evidenced by the fanatical behaviour of the fans.
They booed and whistled at Medvedev even between the first and second serves. The second player of the world didn’t mind the unruly spectators:
The Russian didn’t let himself get derailed, he brought the match to a successful end and confirmed his role as the favourite not only in the match with Kyrgios, but also in the whole tournament.
He is known for his arguments with the spectators, for example, from the last US Open, but they seem to have no effect on his game.
