Nobody expected this. Kamaru Usman did not make it through the first round of the fight with Leon Edwards, but after that he turned the fight clearly in his favor and it was no different in the fifth round.
However, with a minute left in the fifth round, Edwards sent a high kick from hell and shut Usman down in spectacular fashion. Quite possibly the knockout of the year. If not the most beautiful, then certainly the most surprising.
Edwards was practically not counted on to win. Usman himself was already focusing on other challenges. He has been talking a lot about fighting at welterweight lately, even mentioning Jiri Prochazka.
And the Moravian fighter was one of the stars who reacted to the result. He praised a beautiful combination by Edwards and congratulated him on his unexpected win.
Khamzat Chimaev was surprised by the result. He shared only three letters on Twitter. He added a few smiley faces. And even star Conor McGregor, who doesn’t have much of a relationship with Usman, didn’t hide his laughter. His reaction? There were a few, but “Hahahahhahhahajaaj” is probably the most telling.
On the other hand, heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has a very good relationship with Usman. ” Guys, this sport is so unpredictable.” His friend’s loss is understandably disappointing.
Just three letters from Dustin Poirier. He then added a note saying he couldn’t wait for his next game. The unexpected result has obviously only increased his desire to fight.
Usman himself added his own message.
