McEnroe revealed his favourite at the US Open. He flashed this record-breaking serve!
The US Open is coming down to the final. The last eight players remain in the field, including a record number of home players. John McEnroe is the favourite among them. And not just because of what this player showed in his eighth-final match.
The US Open is coming down to the final. The last eight players remain in the field, including a record number of home players. John McEnroe is the favourite among them. And not just because of what this player showed in his eighth-final match.
The last Grand Slam of the season is now entering the quarter-final stage and there are still three home players in contention. The last time the USA produced a result of this quality was 18 years ago.
Twenty-year-old Ben Shelton and ATP number ten Frances Tiafoe will face each other in the semi-finals. Their partner, Taylor Fritz, will face perhaps the toughest possible opponent. He’ll challenge Novak Djokovic.
The legendary John McEnroe has a favourite among the home three. He considers the youngest of these players, Shelton, to be the most promising American on the ATP circuit. In the last match, he shone with a serve that was also pleasing to McEnroe’s eye.
Thanks to this ace, Shelton defeated another compatriot Paul in the eighth round. He improved his previous best at a home Grand Slam for the umpteenth time. That was the first round last year.
Who will follow Roddick?
According to Shelton, American tennis is heading in a great direction. He regrets the duel with Tiafoe. “Maybe otherwise we could have had three representatives in the semi-finals,” he confirmed the optimistic ambitions of American tennis according to Eurosport .
And the desire to win the US Open is huge among the home representatives. Shelton, Tiafoe and Fritz all have a chance to follow up Andy Roddick’s 20-year-old triumph. None of the U.S. representatives have repeated that feat since.
And finally..
The topic of domestic tennis players and their desire to triumph at Flushing Meadows has been a central theme since the start of this year’s US Open. The Americans have already won many battles here this year, but the toughest ones are yet to come.
The number one contender now is Djokovic. Over the next two rounds, he can eliminate the remaining US representatives. On the other hand, Shelton and co. haven’t been this close in a long time. Can they prove on home soil that this year doesn’t just belong to Alcaraz and Djokovic?
