This year’s NHL season in Edmonton hasn’t gone as expected. The main star Connor McDavid was injured at first and when he came back, he didn’t shine on the ice like he usually does. But now the best hockey player in the world is starting to make a comeback.

No one doubts that Connor McDavid is currently the best hockey player in the world. In the last 7 seasons he has always scored over 100 points, and in the last one he scored 173 points.

But Edmonton stands and falls on him and Leon Draisaitl alone. The rest of the roster isn’t as good and that’s why McDavid hasn’t come close to a Stanley Cup yet.

In recent years, we’ve been used to McDavid and Draisaitl dominating the scoring for the entire league, especially with the Canadian phantom being a huge rebounder.

Since the start of this season, however, his scoring has stuttered. And the Oilers have suffered tremendously because of it. He missed five games due to injury, and in the remaining 16 games he scored just six goals and added just 10 assists. Extremely low numbers for him.

But in his last two games, he’s picked up 9 points. He had four assists against Washington, scored a goal and added four assists against Anaheim. He jumped to 25 points in 18 games.

Edmonton is struggling right now, they are only 13th in the Western Conference table and second to last in the Pacific Division. Only San Jose, Chicago and Minnesota have accumulated fewer points.

So now comes the question of whether this was just a phenomenon against weaker opponents (Edmonton played Washington and Anaheim) or if the Oilers are finally waking up and can attack the playoffs. To do that, they’ll need the life form of McDavid.
