Edmonton’s captain Connor McDavid had a great performance in the Stanley Cup Final and is once again virtually unstoppable. Thanks to his efforts, the Oilers beat the Panthers for the second time in a row and dropped the series to 2-3.

After the opening three games of the final series, it seemed that this year’s Stanley Cup Final would be a one-sided affair. However, Edmonton found a way to get the best of Sergei Bobrovsky, who scored 9 goals in 85 minutes in the last two games.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been a huge part of that , scoring 8 points on 3 goals and 5 assists in the last two games. He has once again claimed the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is awarded to the MVP of the playoffs.

Edmonton took the lead early in the first period when Brown scored a shorthanded goal. And the game was decided in the second period when Edmonton scored 3 goals. All of them were scored by McDavid.

Veteran Corey Perry also scored. At the beginning of the third period, Oliver Ekman – Larsson made the game even more dramatic by correcting the score to 3:4. However, the game was decided by McDavid’s second goal of the game into an empty net.

Historic records were set, McDavid made history again

Edmonton became the first team in the history of the NHL to win on the opponent’s ice, although they were already down 0:3 in the series. In addition, McDavid also made his mark in NHL history. He became only the third player in the playoffs to surpass the 40-point mark in a single season.

His 8 goals and 34 assists are already the third-best performance in history. Only Wayne Gretzky has surpassed the 40-point mark on three occasions.

Mario Lemieux has also done it once. In addition, the very productive Evan Bouchard also had three assists. He is the second man in playoff scoring with 32 points on six goals and 26 assists.

With 26 assists in one playoff game, he surpassed the legendary feat of Paul Coffey and set a new NHL record for assists by a defenseman.

“It was a combined effort from all of us. The special teams did well, the power play defense was outstanding, nothing more to add to that. “Brownie” (Connor Brown) scored a great goal to calm us down. It was a total team performance from every player,” said Canadian McDavid after the game.
