Kylian Mbappé surpassed a very important milestone in Friday’s qualifying match against the Netherlands. In the national team’s jersey, he scored goal number 42, surpassing the legendary Michel Platini.

France quickly took the lead in their sixth qualifying Group B match against the Netherlands. In the seventh minute, Kylian Mbappé was already on the scoresheet.

In addition to sending his team into an early one-goal lead, he also equalled the legendary Platini in terms of goals scored (41) in the national team jersey.

The PSG star only needed one more goal to beat him. And the still only 24-year-old superstar managed to do that, albeit in the second half.

Mbappé received a perfectly timed pass in the 53rd minute, whereupon he took a shot after a great first touch from just outside the penalty area. Mbappé’s shot subsequently ended up in the bottom right corner of the opponent’s goal – 2: 0 for France.

With this precise strike, number 42, Mbappé surpassed Platini and moved into fourth place on the list of the French national team’s all-time top scorers.

Griezmann as Mbappé’s next goal, Giroud top scorer

He is two goals short of third-placed Antoine Griezmann. Mbappé then needs nine more goals to move into second place, currently held by Thierry Henry. Olivier Giroud is France’s all-time top scorer with 54 goals.

In any case, France managed three points against the Netherlands. In the 83rd minute, Quilindschy Hartman reduced the score to 1:2, but that was it in terms of goals at the Amsterdam stadium.

The French national team continues to perform very well with 18 points in six games and with a 13:1 record, they are now in first place in qualifying group B.
