Mbappé’s fear? Not the defenders, but the referee’s whistle. The internet is having fun with his terrified reaction
Kylian Mbappé is definitely one of the best footballers in the world at the moment, which is evidenced by his performances for PSG and the French national team. No defender in the world scares him, but that can’t quite be said for the referee’s whistle.
Kylian Mbappé is definitely one of the best footballers in the world at the moment, which is evidenced by his performances for PSG and the French national team. No defender in the world scares him, but that can’t quite be said for the referee’s whistle.
Against Leipzig in the Champions League, the Parisians were missing the injured Neymar and Di María, so all attention turned to Mbappé and Messi. PSG eventually won 3-2 thanks to two goals from Messi, but the star of the show was once again Mbappé.
The French speedster finished off an ultra-quick PSG counter in the ninth minute to send the hosts into the lead. When Leipzig turned the game around, Mbappé kicked on again and took over. In the 57th minute, he did so by breaking into the penalty area on the right and played the ball to Messi, who tapped it into the net with a lucky touch against the bar.
A few minutes later, Mbappé headed the ball into the penalty area from the left, but was fouled by a Leipzig defender and it was a penalty. He conceded that to Messi, who returned the favour, and in the 94th minute Mbappé kicked the penalty, this time but didn’t convert.
It’s hard to find a defender in the world who scares Mbappé, but that can’t quite be said of referees. When the 22-year-old was concentrating in the tunnel before the game, the referee’s whistle, signaling to the others to go get ready, gave him quite a scare.
Mbappé’s reaction not only amused the commentators, but also the entire internet. However, it didn’t upset his concentration for the match and the French international helped PSG to get through an important game.
