Mbappé’s contact with Real Madrid is not on ice. Under what circumstances could he leave for Madrid?
When Kylian Mbappé pledged to sign for Real Madrid last summer, only to end up signing the biggest contract in PSG’s history, he became Los Blancos number 1 enemy. But six months on, emotions have cooled and the Frenchman’s transfer is reportedly still in play.
When Kylian Mbappé pledged to sign for Real Madrid last summer, only to end up signing the biggest contract in PSG’s history, he became Los Blancos number 1 enemy. But six months on, emotions have cooled and the Frenchman’s transfer is reportedly still in play.
Real Madrid fans could not come up with a name for him. He was a traitor they never wanted to see at their club again.
In fact, Mbappé fed the fans in interviews about how playing for Real Madrid was his dream, how much he wanted to leave for the Spanish capital but the club wouldn’t let him go. He made a promise to Florentino Pérez that he would sign a contract with the royal club.
And when he finally had the chance, as his contract was up at the Parc des Princes and he could leave for free, he decided to succumb to the money and sign the fattest football contract in history with PSG.
But after six months, the situation is a little different. According to elite Spanish journalist Mario Cortegana, who writes for one of the top daily newspapers, The Athletic, Mbappe’s arrival at Real is still in play.
Management reportedly fell for the World Cup, where Mbappé showed tremendous footballing quality despite his character flaws, and it is since the Qatar championship that the two sides are reportedly back in touch. However, after last year’s fiasco, they are trying to keep a lid on it as they don’t want to fill the front pages of the media.
2025 = 2024
PSG triumphantly unveiled Mbappé’s contract until 2025, but in reality it is only valid until 2024 with a one-year option that only Mbappé can exercise. Thus, if Mbappé decides to leave, Real Madrid will always be in play.
However, just a few months after signing the new contract, it has come to light that Mbappé is unhappy in Paris and wants to leave. The problem, however, still lies with the PSG management. This is because it is in open war with Real Madrid and Antero Henrique, PSG’s consultant, has let it be known that Mbappé can go anywhere he wants, except Real Madrid.
However, Mbappé has reportedly not given up his dream of donning the white jersey. ” The only club that can get him out is Real Madrid,” a PSG source told The Athletic.
It is highly unlikely that PSG would be willing to sell to Real Madrid. And if they did, they would be asking for an outrageous sum of over €400 million. Thanks to the backing of the Qatari sheikhs, the club doesn’t need the money and so doesn’t need to sell anyone.
So if Mbappé’s arrival at Real is in play, it is more likely to be in the summer of 2024, when his contract expires at the Parc des Princes. That is, unless he succumbs to political pressure again from French President Emmanuel Macron and top Qatari officials.
