It took a long time, a really long time. However, Real Madrid fans have finally arrived. After leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé has officially joined the famous Spanish club, signing a contract until the end of June 2029.
The French superstar did not have a successful EURO, having recently admitted himself that he failed at this year’s European Championship.
But that hasn’t spoiled Mbappé’s joy at arriving in his new stint. The club had already announced last week that the new signing would wear the number 9, while also warning fans to be patient with the delivery and production of the jerseys. There is already a huge demand for them.
Sales of this jersey are expected to break all club records, including the long-ago arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Tuesday’s presentation was watched by a packed Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Mbappé stood on stage next to club president Florentino Pérez and all 15 of Real Madrid’s Champions League trophies. Understandably, he received a thunderous reception from all the fans. Several iconic figures from the club’s history were also present, including fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane.
I’ll give my life for the Real jersey, says Mbappé
On his first day in Madrid, Mbappé first underwent a medical, then signed autographs for the fans. And, as reported by Spanish news site Diario AS, the 25-year-old then went to the training centre in Valdebebas to sign his contract.
After twelve o’clock, Real Madrid’s presentation subsequently began. This was originally scheduled for the evening, but due to commitments related to the stadium preparations for the upcoming concert, the presentation was postponed.
“It’s wonderful to be here. For several years I have dreamed of playing for Real Madrid while I was sleeping and today I have made that dream come true,” Mbappé said after arriving at Real Madrid.
“This is a great day, I’ve dreamed of Real Madrid since I was a little boy. Now I have a new dream – to join the best club in the world and make history. I can promise one thing: I will give my life for this jersey,” added the new signing, who tried to speak Spanish during the presentation.
