Kylian Mbappé has a lot to look forward to this summer. He is reportedly headed to Real Madrid, with German newspaper Bild reporting that he has already signed a contract. And the sum on it is staggering.

The reason why Mbappé is so keen to leave for Real Madrid is definitely not the money. After all, PSG have offered him an outrageous salary that would shoot him above both Lionel Messi and Neymar in the team hierarchy.

But the French youngster has been a fan of Los Blancos since he was a kid, and moreover, he believes that it is from the Santiago Bernabéu that the easiest route to regular Champions League trophies and the Ballon d’Or is found. History proves him right.

Even so, Real Madrid will still put a big dent in his paycheck. By coming on a free and not having to pay anything for his transfer, he can get all the more bang for his buck.

According to Bild newspaper, Mbappé will receive a salary of 50 million euros (about 1.2 billion crowns) before tax per year at Real. That would make him the highest paid footballer in the world in terms of contracts with clubs.

When you break the contract down into parts, huge chunks still come out of it.

50 million euros /1.2 billion crowns – per year
4.2 million euros/101 million crowns – per month
961 thousand euros/23 million crowns – per week
137 thousand euros/3 million crowns – per day
5 thousand euros/121 thousand crowns – per hour
1.58 euros/38 crowns – per second

That doesn’t look bad, does it? Of course you have to add to that the huge sponsorship deals Mbappe would rack up by signing at Real Madrid. For he would instantly become a major media and marketing star, not only for Real Madrid, but for the whole of La Liga and perhaps even world football.

Last summer, president Florentino Pérez offered PSG up to €200 million to sign the French speedster. But the Qatari owners of the Parisian outfit refused, and so will let Mbappé leave for free in the summer as his contract expires.

PSG officials were well aware of Mbappé’s intention to leave for the Spanish capital, with the player himself coming to management with a transfer request. But Nasser Al-Khelaifi continued to stubbornly refuse, with the Merengues president Pérez then complaining about his dealings with the French colossus.

“The state-owned clubs don’t want to sell players because they have enough money. It’s madness. We offered €200 million for a single player and they didn’t respond. When players are out of contract, it’s better,” the Real Madrid boss hinted at what will happen in the summer.

That money could have gone to PSG, but instead Mbappé and his agent will get it.
