The Kylian Mbappé transfer saga has been one of the longest and most watched events of this summer. The French striker wanted to leave PSG and head to Real Madrid, but the Qatari owners rejected all possible offers.
Mbappe’s contract at PSG expires in a year and he is not going to sign a new one. That’s why he wanted to leave this year. To Real Madrid, of which he has been a fan since he was young. But his current employer has rejected offers from Los Blancos of up to €200 million.
“In July I asked to leave. I didn’t want to extend, but I wanted the club to get an amount for which they could find a quality replacement. I had respect. I said if you don’t want me to leave, I’ll stay,” Mbappé said in an interview with RMC Sport.
And there is no resentment on Mbappé so far. He has scored 4 goals and 3 assists in Ligue 1 this season. He is the top scorer and assist man at PSG. The other is Hakimi and Herrera, both have 3 goals and 2 assists. The star Neymar scored 1 goal added 1 assist, new signing Lionel Messi hasn’t scored a single point yet.
But Mbappé continued the conversation. He then took a swipe at PSG, who leaked false information to the world.
“Personally, I didn’t appreciate PSG saying that I asked to leave in the last week of August because it’s not true. I felt like a thief. I informed them in time, at the end of July,” Mbappé continued.
There was also talk that the French superstar had turned down several offers to extend his contract at PSG, which he also said was untrue.
“Yes, in July I asked to leave. But it’s not true that I turned down 7 contract offers. PSG has given me a lot, I’ve always been happy here in these 4 years. And I still am,” said the 22-year-old footballer.
As we have already mentioned, Mbappe’s contract expires at the end of this season. And it certainly doesn’t look like the young prodigy is going to renew. Especially after these public statements.
