Mbappé and Rashford on the same team? No one cares about PSG in Qatar. If Manchester United are bought by the Qatari emir, it could be a reality
Nobody watches Ligue 1 in Qatar. That’s the finding of French news site Le Parisien, which says the Premier League is the biggest draw for locals. This then implies two possible things.
Nobody watches Ligue 1 in Qatar. That’s the finding of French news site Le Parisien, which says the Premier League is the biggest draw for locals there. This then implies two possible things. Indeed, Tameem bin Hamad Al Thani has reportedly entered the fray for Manchester United, which could take Kylian Mbappé to Old Trafford if the deal is successful. So what is currently known?
Manchester United is up for sale and one of the serious bidders is Tamim bin Hamad Ál Thani, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee. The 4th Emir of Qatar, who is 42 years old, apparently fell definitively in love with football while hosting the World Cup late last year.
According to The Guardian, the ruler of the Qatari emirate is offering £4.5 billion for the Manchester outfit, which is, however, £1.5 billion less than the Glazer family imagines.
However, that’s not the only catch to this potential Manchester United purchase. Indeed, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has owned Parisian club PSG since 2011, through Qatar Sports Investment.
UEFA does not allow two teams with the same owner to meet in the same competition. However, according to the latest reports, the Qatari emir wants to own both clubs.
Why the interest in Manchester United?
As we have already mentioned, the Qatari owners of PSG are very likely addressing the fact that the Parisian club, despite huge investments in the most famous players, cannot attract as much attention. In Qatar, they reportedly only watch Messi and co. in the Champions League. Ligue 1, however, is of no interest to them at all.
The statistics show that the Premier League is the overwhelming number one in this case, with huge amounts of money being invested in it, which was particularly evident at the beginning of this year, when the scissors between the English top flight and the others became even more open.
Thus, the Qatari owners are apparently planning to change their strategy and want to build the best team in the world from Manchester United, which has many bonuses that PSG can hardly have anytime soon.
A new star pairing of Rashford – Mbappé?
Everyone believed that Mbappé would leave for Real Madrid, but in the end he signed a huge contract for him in Paris, but the desired results have not come so far and after the loss to Bayern Munich, he probably won’t come this season either.
In the event that the aforementioned deal does come to fruition, the Red Devils’ potential new owners will look to drag Mbappé to Manchester, where he would form a new superstar duo with Marcus Rashford.
All these indications hint at a possible future, but it may still be a long way off. After all, even the Newcastle takeover took several years from some initial speculation to realisation. Not to mention that there is a lot of interest in Manchester United and many influential people would hate to see the club in the hands of the Qataris.
