Koeman’s neck was definitely broken by Wednesday’s defeat to Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona are only ninth in the La Liga table, which is definitely not to the liking of the management or the fans, so the logical move came. Ronald Koeman has been sacked.
According to current information, it looks like he will be replaced on the bench by club legend Xavi. He should try to lift the team and get them back on the winning track.
Barcelona president Laporta then revisited the end of Koeman in an interview.
“We released him after the Rayo Vallecano game. But we are very grateful to him because he came to Barcelona at a very difficult time. The club will always remember him,” Laporta said.
” Maybe we could have done it earlier, but we thought Koeman deserved more trust. I take responsibility for this decision.”
And what are Barcelona’s goals for the rest of the season? Perhaps surprisingly, they haven’t changed at all. “Our goal is still to win the Champions League, La Liga and the Spanish Cup,” Joan Laporta proclaims.
