Max Verstappen’s dominance? The greatest I have ever seen in my life, said Red Bull boss Christian Horner of the champion
Max Verstappen won this year’s Formula 1 season by a class difference and thus defended his championship from last season. Although it didn’t look like it on several occasions on the track, his domination of the results is quite evident. Red Bull boss Christian Horner, who said he had never seen anything like it in his life, also spoke about it.

136 – that’s exactly the points lead that Dutchman Verstappen has at the top of the drivers’ championship. The two-time world champion secured this year’s title in a rainy Japanese Grand Prix, while in Mexico the Red Bull driver broke the F1 record for the most wins in a single season.
Verstappen already has 14 wins this season, surpassing Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel with 13. No other driver in the history of Formula One has accumulated as many points as Verstappen this year.
The Dutch driver currently has 416 points to his name, surpassing the bar set by Lewis Hamilton (413 points) in the 2019 season.
There is probably nothing special about the dominance of one of the teams during the Grand Prix and the entire championship, as this is a historically established fact in the queen of motorsport. However, the Red Bull boss singled out Verstappen’s performance, his mental set-up or his character directly.
So how did Horner answer the question in an interview with Motorsport as to whether Verstappen’s dominance is the greatest he has seen in his life?
“Yes, we had a big domination of the team here, set by Mercedes. But as a driver, probably yes. He won the most Grands Prix in one year. Plus, he won two sprint races and he didn’t always win the race from pole position. He had to fight for a lot of those wins,” Horner replied.
“I think in hindsight it was a very special year for him. He was perfect all season. It’s incredible the level and consistency he’s been able to achieve,” explained the Red Bull Racing boss, clearly indicating his admiration for Verstappen.
There is probably nothing more to add to his comments. And indeed – although on many occasions the on-track action has looked more dramatic than the results show, Verstappen has set a truly furious pace, particularly in the second half of this season.
What’s more, Red Bull built a superb car that deservedly led the Austrian stable to victory in the Constructors’ Cup.
