Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United? The player has been given the green light to transfer by Bayern. The Bavarian team already has a replacement in mind

Matthijs de Ligt was on a tear in 2019 when most of Europe’s big clubs were after him. He was acquired by Juventus back then, but 3 years later he moved to Bayern Munich and now it looks like another change. The Dutch stopper has reportedly been given the green light by the Munich club to negotiate with Manchester United.

A stopper is a must for Manchester United

If there is one position where Manchester United really needs to strengthen, it is at the stopper position. That’s because Raphael Varane is leaving the club, leaving only Lisandro Martínez to be reckoned with in the starting line-up. Neither Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf nor anyone else reaches Premier League quality enough to play a full season at such a club.

So the arrival of de Ligt is very welcome news. Fabrizio Romano has reported on his X account that Bayern Munich management have given him the green light for the player’s agent Rafaela Pimenta to negotiate a transfer with Manchester United.

the 24-year-old Dutch stopper played only 30 games last season. The knee injury that the player picked up in November is also to blame. But as the season came to an end, de Ligt lost his position in the starting line-up.

Logically, speculations about a possible new signing for the Bavarian team began. One of the names often mentioned is Leverkusen stopper Jonathan Tah, who has walked with the German national team all the way to the quarter-finals, where Spain awaits them.

Like Juventus, there will probably be no place for de Ligt in Munich. In return, a warm welcome will await him at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag remaining at the helm. It is he who is behind the potential arrival of his compatriot, with whom he enjoyed great success at Ajax.

However, the fans are not so keen and fear another flop. The Hag has already once insisted on the arrival of his former charge, which is Antony. Meanwhile, even de Ligt, after his departure from Ajax, does not yet convince that he should have the value Juventus were buying him for in 2019. He was already worth 85.5 million euros then, Bayern cost 67 million three years later. So the question is how much Manchester United can bring him for this time.

Anyway, it has to be said that de Ligt didn’t have a completely bad season, quite the opposite. So it will be interesting to see how he performs in the Premier League in case of a transfer. He is a very strong player, a great header who can score goals as well. He’s just a bit behind in speed, a bit like Maguire, only a few years younger. But hopefully it won’t be a similar scenario for the Red Devils.
